Seperti yang telah dimaklumkan dalam twitter, album alesana yang terbaru akan dilancarkan pada 26/1/10. album yang diberikan nama the emptiness merupakan nafas baru untuk Alesana setelah album Where Myth fades to legend(2008) mendapat sambuta dan sebutan seluruh dunia. Album the emptiness dijangkakan akan menjadi bualan, kerana rentak yang dimainkan tetap berkonsepkan Post-Hardcore, line up yang masih sama membuatkan album ini tidak lari daripada konsep yang diperjuangkan sebelum ini. lagu yang diselitkan dalam album ini dikatakan lebih bertenaga dan aggressive, berikut merupakan list lagu yang dimuatkan dalam album the emptiness

The Emptiness is the third full length album by Alesana and the first to have current guitarist Jake Cambell instead of the former vocalist/guitarist Adam Ferguson. Because of this, the only vocal harmonies in the album are between multiple recordings of Shawn Milke and guest vocals from Melissa Milke. It was recorded in the fall of 2009 and will be released on January 26th, 2010.[3]. Although the former albums have references to mythology of different cultures, this is the band's first concept album where the story is not based on anything else, but written by Milke and Lee[4]. The story is said by the band to be set in the onset of the 20th century and involve, on a lesser scale, time travel. In the July of 2009 the band's myspace was changed by Justin Reich to foreshadow the story of "The Emptiness". Photos were taken of all the members in a large abandoned room holding bloody weapons and wearing suits, and a digital newspaper on the myspace reads "Local Artist/ Draws Attention/ With Macabre/ Sketches" and "Town Beauty/ Annabel Lee/ To/ Cut/ Ribbon/ At Local Tavern"[5]. The artwork for the album was commissioned to Pat Perry.

The Emptiness is unique in being the only work by Alesana to have an official single: on November 23, after showing teaser versions of the song, the band digitally sold "To Be Scared By an Owl" on their website. The second single "The Thespian" was realeased two weeks later in the same fashion, shortly after the filming of it's music video.

The album was leaked on January 12, 2010.
